Tall Dwarfs 'Unravelled'

Brand Identity

Project Overview

‘Unravelled: 1981-2002’ is a 4-lp vinyl retrospective box set released by US label Merge Records in celebration of cult Kiwi musical duo Tall Dwarfs and their rich body of subversive, sonically-experimental and sometimes melodious music.

The box set was produced to bring their previously out-of-press and outrageously-expensive-on-Discogs back catalogue to a new audience; distilling down over twenty years of archival footage, photography, artwork and ephemera into two gatefold sleeves, a 20 page lyrics booklet and cardboard slip case.

The box centres around a hypnotic, op-art inspired, cut-up and spat-out, spiral motif, riffing on a long forgotten inset from an early e.p. In many ways a visual representation of Tall Dwarf’s music: meandering, confronting, unexpected. A little nauseating. The box has been critically acclaimed, with features in the likes of Mojo, Aquarium Drunkard, Uncut and Pitchfork. Cult music rag Creem magazine say: “Kiwi-pop aficionados and newbies alike should do everything in their human power to plunk down for this godlike genius.”
